High Poet Society started out with Mike and Dane, 2 highschool juniors writing iffy battle raps on lined paper in spanish class. Later, it involved recording such smash hits as "Nod Ya Head To This" and "Running" with a computer microphone at Mikes house. Eventually with a little money and some creativity, both Mike Brannon (Now Mic-B) and Dane McLain (Now emcee Lain) discovered fruity loops and studio equipment. About a month later, Raph began coming to sessions, started writing and fell right into place. Their first show was on May 22, 2003 at the Livingston Bandshell. The reception was greater than expected, pushing the three's creative minds to work harder. Soon they all graduated, and Mic and Lain left for college... in different places... it was at a hall Open Mic Night where Raph and Mic met their soon-to-be Two Handed Taskforce, DJ AG... hailing from Vermont, AG brought with him the power of producer John Madson, and the East Coast feel of Vermont. Such was born... VerMontana Hip-Hop. As the weeks passed, new emcees stepped as they heard of the HPS. StC, MC CowboyHat, and D4N4 were all hopefuls... but in the end, the HPS was ready to welcome Absurd with open arms. Dropping his first tracks in dorm rooms on an 8-track, and on voicemail, Absurd quickly proved his undeniable talent. Here lies the High Poet Society.
January 24th, 2008 - Been messing around with the new (old) MPC2000, and I gotta say... this unit is dope, yo! I cant get enough of it! The only downside is the prevalence of 32nd counts instead of 64th's... a little limiting, but not something i'm entirely taken aback by... also working on figuring out the sampler's ins and outs... I'll post some new beats later in the week when i get some bangers done... it takes my style to this old-school level... also considering doing an instructional video on my beat process... so we'll see... one love.
January 22nd, 2008 - Redid the entire studio layout today. I couldn't stand the lack of space and the echo from this weird half-wall in the basement, so I moved all the gear out into the main room... also finally got my monitors on stands! Prepare for some better-sounding recordings, yo! Also, new album cover... very tentative at this point, but oh well...
